Representatives of the Technical Research Support Unit of the Institute of Health Research of Aragon visited on Wednesday, March 22nd Navarrabiomed to get to know the facilities of the Advanced Therapies Clean Room CellMa intended for the manufacture of sterile medicinal products for human use. The head of this technical scientific service of Navarrabiomed, Dr. Natalia Ramirez and the Director of the centre, Dr. Maite Mendioroz, welcomed them and explained the details of this highly specialised facility, which is currently in the final phase of certification.
On behalf of the IIS of Aragon, this meeting was attended by Eduardo Pastor Miedes, Elisa Del Barrio Cortés and Carmen Oñate Salafranca. The group was also accompanied by Montserrat Abad Lavilla, an architect and María Teresa Pintanel, an engineer who collaborates with the Advanced Therapies Unit of the institution.

Adaptation of spaces and available technology

During the visit, the representatives of the IIS of Aragon were able to get to know the relevant infrastructure of the facility itself, as well as that required for the location of general and high-end equipment. They also asked about technical aspects of the implementation of the CellMa Clean Room as well as issues related to the organisation and organisational chart of personnel and the process of implementing the pharmaceutical quality system of “Good Manufacturing Practices-GMP”. To explain all these details, Edurne Echeverría, responsible for the Management Office of Navarrabiomed and the technical staff of the CELLMA Clean Room, was present.

The Navarrabiomed Clean Room is currently undergoing the certification process and it is expected that it will be certified by the Spanish Medicines Agency (AEMPS) in the second half of 2023.

This visit involves an exchange of good practices between autonomous communities and promotes institutional collaboration in the field of biomedical management and research.
