María Bezunartea Álvarez (Pamplona, 1971) holds a degree in Economics and Business Sciences (1994), a Master’s degree in Health Economics and Health Management from the Universities of Barcelona and Pompeu Fabra, and a specialization in Accounting and Audit of Territorial Public Administrations from the University of Zaragoza.

She has over 25 years of experience in executive positions related to the economic and administrative management of public sector entities in the Spanish healthcare system. In the past 15 years, she has held management positions in entities focused on R&D&i in the same field: from 2007 to 2015 at Navarrabiomed - Miguel Servet Foundation (FMS) and from 2015 to 2023 at the Aragon Institute of Health Sciences (IACS).
 

Some of the most relevant projects she has actively contributed to are:

  • The establishment and transformation of various regional public R&D+i entities, including IACS and Navarrabiomed - FMS.

  • Securing national and European funding for two biomedical research centers, the Biomedical Research Center (CIBA) in Aragon and Navarrabiomed in Navarra.

  • Setting up the infrastructure and equipment for the headquarters of Navarrabiomed.

  • Co-designing the current clinical trial management model in Aragon, awarded by Diario Médico.

  • Designing and implementing a strategy to promote and support innovation procurement projects in the Department of Health of the Government of Aragon from 2016 to 2023.

  • Coordinating the European project ROSIA for pre-commercial procurement of tele-rehabilitation services in remote areas.
