Cross-cutting Department for
Gender Inclusivity in R&D&

The Cross-cutting Department for Gender Inclusivity in R&D&I is responsible for promoting and coordinating the progressive and cross-cutting integration of the gender-inclusive approach in all of Navarrabiomed's research activities, providing specialised technical advice and assistance to the staff of its own Research Units and Scientific and Technical Services, and contributing to the centre’s scientific and research excellence.

Incorporating this approach involves, on the one hand, recognising and exploring how biological differences (sex) and existing social inequalities between women and men (gender), as well as the specific situations of individuals within these groups, influence and even determine their health and how they fall ill and respond to different treatments at all stages of their life cycle. Furthermore, incorporating an inclusive gender approach contributes to higher quality, more rigorous, equitable, fair and useful research for all people, no matter what their starting point is.

The work of the Cross-cutting Department is organised along three main lines:

  • Progressive and cross-cutting incorporation of an inclusive gender approach into all research activities, from the design stage onwards, taking into account the specific circumstances of the different Research Units and SCTs (Scientific and Technical Departments), as well as those of related institutions and entities.

  • Identification of research needs and priorities in health-related issues that have a different impact on and/or are specific to one of the sexes or a particular group.

  • Initial and specialised training in collaboration with ADItech for research staff to contribute to their further training in research with a gender-inclusive approach.

For the development of this approach, Navarrabiomed has the support and advice of Aditech, which has materialized in a partnership agreement for its implementation. See related news.
