Medical specialist in Internal Medicine and Doctor of Medicine from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, affiliated with the University Hospital of Navarra since May 2019. The topic of his doctoral thesis was hepatic encephalopathy in patients with liver cirrhosis, on which the PI has collaborated in several Cochrane Foundation meta-analyses, the latest published in 2025.

Currently, his specialty and research line are systemic autoimmune diseases. He has prior research experience in the line of autoimmune manifestations in cancer patients treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors, especially in predictive biomarkers including generic autoantibodies. He has received funding from competitive autonomous-level projects, such as the AUTENTIC project (2020 call for Health Research and Development Projects of the Basque Government, file number 2020111056) and INTER-AUTENTIC (2023 call for Health Research Projects of the Government of Navarra, reference 45_NA23).

Another research line led by the PI is systemic autoimmune diseases and their immunomodulatory treatment. During the COVID pandemic, he was promoter and first author of the independent clinical trial CORTIVID, which evaluated the efficacy and safety of corticosteroids in patients admitted for COVID-19 without respiratory failure. CORTIVID has been included in two meta-analyses published in Cochrane Database Syst Rev and NEJM Evidence, highlighting its high methodological quality. Other articles published by the IP in the field of systemic autoimmune disease research have focused on antiphospholipid syndrome and giant cell arteritis.
 
Regarding clinical experience, the IP is co-responsible for a weekly monographic clinic in systemic autoimmune diseases and has completed a Master’s in Clinical Management of Systemic Autoimmune Diseases from the University of Barcelona, in which he received the Master’s Thesis Award.
